My story
Why ASL?
It was my sophomore year of high school, and I was trying to figure out which classes to take. There were many different options and so many decisions. I had a friend taking American Sign Language, and she wanted me to take it with her. Sign language??? I could barely communicate using my words, so how would I do in a setting where that was removed entirely? To say I was apprehensive would have been an understatement. But my friend was cool, and so I decided to take the class! In that class, I was briefly introduced to ASL and learned a few signs. Fast-forward to junior year, my same friend decided to take ASL at a local community college. I thought to myself, "Well, why not?" That class changed my life. My teacher was incredible, and he instilled his love of ASL and deaf culture into my very being. I kept on taking sign language classes, and found a developing love and passion for this incredible culture and language.

So why should you take ASL? Have you ever wanted to talk with your friends, but couldn’t because they were on the other side of the window? How about if they were on the opposite side of a really loud room? What if your mouth was full, but you had a really good story to share and didn’t want to wait? Have you ever seen someone signing and had a weird desire to know exactly what they were saying? If you answered yes to any of those questions, it sounds like it’s time for you and your friends to learn American Sign Language. Join my class and I promise you'll learn tons, laugh loads, and find a favorite class. And it just might change your life.
